Catalina Heights Recognized for Excellence in Environmental Initiatives and Sustainable Design
CAMARILLO, Ca. — On April 20, the Ventura County Board of Supervisors recognized Catalina Heights, a public/private partnership between Clark Realty Capital (CRC) and the Department of the Navy, for its Sustainable Business Practices and Overall Program Excellence in furthering the county’s commitment to reducing climate change. Catalina Heights is a redeveloped military family housing community that will feature 32 single-family homes and 283 townhomes upon completion.

“The commitment to sustainability, innovation and creativity in the redevelopment of the Catalina Heights military housing community by the Navy Base Ventura County in a public/private partnership with Clark Reality is truly ahead of the curve," said Supervisor Kathy Long, chair of the Ventura County Board of Supervisors.

Developed by Clark Realty Capital and constructed by Clark Builders Group, Catalina Heights is replacing 50-year-old Navy housing with spacious, Energy Star® certified three- and four-bedroom homes. The community’s additional green features include improved storm water management, a grove of fruit and nut trees, eco-friendly paint and sustainable insulation, as well as a commitment to recycling over 95% of construction materials. The neighborhood also features a LEED® Silver 6,500-square-foot clubhouse with an outdoor swimming pool and central park. Tot lots and ample green space provide additional outdoor recreation for residents.

“We are honored to be recognized by Ventura County for such an important initiative,” said Morgan Rogers, development executive at Clark Realty Capital. “By designing and constructing our homes with attention to the environment, we are making a conscious effort to improve the lives of our military families in every way possible.”

Catalina Heights won top honors for Sustainable Development, and was nominated as a runner-up for Overall Program Excellence through energy conservation and environmental initiatives. Marking the system’s second year, a selection committee met in late March to select winners, and presented the awards at the Board of Supervisors’ Earth Day meeting. Naval Base Ventura County’s Chief Staff Officer and Public Works Officer accepted the Catalina Heights honors before a large gathering of community leaders.
